In need of hats....

Hi everyone. I've never done this before but I am in need of newborn sized hats for Southside.

I only have about a dozen and they deliver about 200 babies a month. So you can see my dilemma. If you would like to help I need hats that are 12" to 14" in circumference. They can be either knit or crochet. Please use soft yarn for their delicate little heads. You can find lots of great patterns at crochet pattern central, knit pattern central or Bevs Country Cottage. You can find links to these sites in my sidebar. If you have any questions you can email me , just click on the Contact me link on my sidebar. Thanks in advance!!!

Holiday Weekend

Well the long holiday weekend is finally over. Personally I'm not big on holidays, they just remind me that I don't have a life. My dad went upstate for the weekend so me and the dog had the house to ourselves. PARTAY!!!! The one thing I learned about myself this weekend is that I am a slob. The house is such a mess when I'm alone. I cleaned the kitchen on friday and on Saturday I walk in there and it looks like a tornado hit the countertops. I tried to get it cleaned up before he came home so he wouldn't know my terrible secret but I end up blabbing it to him as soon as he walks in the door.

I did manage to get some crocheting and knitting done though. Not as much as I had planned on but I seem to be in a bit of a slump. I crocheted the baby onsie, knit a sqare out of wool and started knitting a baby sweater last night in camo yarn. It is knit from the top down, last night I got the yoke done and today I put on a sleeve. I'll go put the other sleeve on when I'm done here.

In bloom...

This is whats blooming in my yard right now.

Sahara Pictures

Here are some pictures of my Sahara on me instead of the chair. I really love this sweater and think I will make the long sleeved version for the winter.

Finished Sahara

Here is my finished sweater. I'm so proud of this, it fits beautifully. I can't wait to make my next sweater, not sure what that will be yet.
I also started my second sock, finished the cast sock, knit a baby hat, machine knit 4 preemie blankets and blocked them since the last time I posted.
I will be making a trip to Southside hospital later this month or the beginning of next month. I've been busy working on some red, white and blue items for the 4th of July. The nurses love holiday themed items.
Well back to work, I've got 6 blankets that need borders. Ciao!

Checking In

Not too much going on here. I'm trying to spend less time on the computer and more time on my knitting and crocheting. I've gotten 3 preemie blankets done on the knitting machine, a onsie crocheted and a washcloth knit. I started a cast sock tonight. My hands are a little sore so I'm taking a break.
Oh yeah! I finished my sweater last night! Its wet and drying right now so no pictures. I'm going to wear it to my grandmothers birthday party on Saturday so I will have my dad take a picture of me wearing it and I'll post it then.
I can't wait to start my second sock to complete the pair. I've already printed off some patterns for others I want to try.

I made a sock!!!!

My first sock!!! I never wanted to make socks before. Then like 3 weeks ago I got the bug, I have OCD so I get a lot of bugs if you know what I mean. Most of them fizzle out about a week later. I told myself if I still wanted to by May 1st then I would get the stuff and go for it. Well sock stuff kept popping up everywhere, I met with some knitting friends for lunch and what did one bring for show and tell? Socks!! Then I'm watching knitty gritty and what are they doing? Making socks! And that is the pattern I used. Stephanie Pearl-McPhee (the yarn harlot) was on showing how to make a simple pair of socks. She called it a recipe not a pattern. So I saved the episode to my DVR in case I needed to check back for some tips. I used Lion Brand Magic Stripes and size 2 needles. It was quite easy and I really enjoyed it. I especially liked doing the heel. I found I didn't make any mistakes and there was no ripping. After I put the last sleeve on my sweater (tonight) I'm going to make the second one. I spent an hour at knitting pattern central looking for more socks to try. I printed off a few. They are a great project for summer and by next winter I'll be armed with a handful of wool socks to keep my toes toasty.

Charity needs

Hi! I've been a bad blogger, nothing in over a week.

I thought I would share again about the needs for the hospital I donate to.

The greatest need is for hats and blankets in both preemie and full term sizes. Sweater sets and clothing items are also greatly appreciated. The sizes for the hats should be 12" around for preemies and up to 14"around for full term babies. To measure them I lay them flat and measure across so preemie hats would be 6"across and full term up to 7" across. Preemie blankets are approximately 16"x16" up to about 25"x25". Full term would be 30"x30" up to 36"x 36". Rectangular blankets should be 2" longer than they are wide. If you have any questions or would like to help feel free to leave a comment or click on the "Contact me" link in the sidebar to send an email. It would be so great if I could get some more Long Islanders to chip in and help.

If you have any ideas on how to get the word out on Long Island please let me know. Thanks ;)
