I'm still here

I've been busy trying to get everything together for my next delivery to Southside Hospital. I have a lot to bring them this time. I want to thank those of you who sent me donations. Every little bit helps. I have over 400 hats to bring them! That makes me soooo happy.

Its beautiful here on Long Island today, very warm for this time of year. I have all the windows open and am working on a knit preemie sweater. It seems that most of the things I knit that say they are for newborns end up being to big so I am trying a preemie sweater pattern to see what size that will actually be.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Collared Cardigan

 Collared Cardigan
I have had a ton of requests for a pattern for this sweater so I dug it out of the donation bin and tried to remember what I did. I told some of you that it is my Cardigan pattern but now that I see it I was wrong. So I wrote it down.
First a few comments on the button band for you before you get started. The buttonband is worked up and down the fronts of the sweater for 3 rows. On this sweater I see that I worked 2 sc in the end of each row but sometimes that makes a wavy edge so I do 2sc in one row and 1sc in the next, so its not too tight I go up one size hook for the edging.
Also depending on the size of the buttons you will have to adjust how many chain spaces you will need to fit the button. And how many buttons you are using, make the same amount of holes (obviously:).
Ok, I think thats everything.   I used Bernat WW yarn and a G-7 hook.

Chain 42
Row 1:  dc in 4th ch from hook and next 4 chs,  3 dc in next ch,  dc in next 6 chs,  3 dc in next ch,  dc in next 12 chs,3 dc in next ch,  dc in next 6 chs,  3 dc in next ch,  dc in last 6 chs.  ch 2, turn.

Rows 2-5: dc in each dc across putting 3dc in center dc of 3dc group below. Ch 2, turn.
Row 6: dc across to center of first 3dc group, ch 6, skip across to next 3dc, dc in center st and each st across to center st of 3rd dc group, ch6, skip to last 3dc put dc in center of 3dc group and across to end. ch 2, turn.
Click here for How to Make Armholes.
Row 7: Dc in each DC and chain across.

Sweater Pattern:  ch 1, turn, sc in first st, dc in next st, *sc in next st, dc in next st* across. Work until bottom is 4 inches from row 7 to bottom. This pattern repeat makes it hard to count rows.   Work last row so you will be at the bottom right side, work 3sc in corner stitch,
Buttonband: work sc up right side of sweater following instructions at the beginning of the pattern. Ch 1 turn, sc in first st, work buttonhole, sc in next. Work down front placing buttonholes accordingly. Ch 1 turn work sc in each sc and chain space up front of sweater.  At top corner put 3sc and work sc around the neckline, put 3sc in corner st, work 3 rows of sc down and up and down the front left side. Put 3sc in bottom corner and sc across bottom edge.
Finish off.
Collar: with front facing you, join yarn in the 4th st in from edge (skip buttonband stitches),  ch 2, dc around the neck ending at last st before buttonband (leave last 3 sts unworked).  Ch 2, dc across.  Ch 2, dc across. (three rows total). End off.
Sleeves  Attach yarn at middle stitch underarm  row 1-10: ch 2, dc in each st around. Join.  row 11: ch 1, sc in each st around. Join, finish off.   If you want a fold up cuff on sleeve work another 2 rows of DC before the SC row.
I hope this pattern is easy enough to follow. Enjoy!!!
