2011 Round-Up

Well I didn't meet my goal of making 500 items for charity this year. I ended up making about 345.  Maybe for 2012 I'll challenge myself to making so many of an item, like 50 sweaters. Here is a breakdown of some of what I did this year:

Baby Hats-157
Newborn Blankets-13
Preemie Blankets- 10
Sweater Sets- 29
Booties- 12

I wish you all a very Happy New Year!!!

Loom Knit Scarf

After trying several knit scarf patterns with this yarn I finally settled on using my loom to knit it.  I think it really shows off the colorway of the yarn which was getting lost in the hand knit patterns I tried. The scarf is finished I just need to take a picture. I have another skein of the yarn and think I will use it to knit myself a slouchy hat.

I put some new things up at my Etsy shop today. What do you think? There are some holiday candle coasters and a set of wine bottle toppers.

Arboretum

My Dad and I went with my Uncle to the Bayard Cutting Arboretum last week. My Uncle is a Master Gardener and took us to show us the border he designed and planted.

While we were there we took a tour of the grounds. Check out this tree, it is a Weeping Beech.  This is just one tree, my father is standing in front of it to give an idea of how big it really is.  The following pictures are taking from "inside" the tree. They built a small deck aroung the base of it so the roots don't get damaged from people walking on it.

And finally, these are the Osprey that live at the Arboretum. The nests are waaaaay up high.

Summer Heat

Its been awhile since I've posted. I don't have to many finished items to share so I'll tell what WIP'S I have. There is a sock on the needles, I finished the first one and just turned the heel on the second last night. Tonight I hope to pick up the gusset stitches and start the gusset. I am crocheting a baby blanket that I will be selling. I am using Pound of Love and a stitch I found in one of those "100 Afghan Stitches" books. It's a time consuming pattern but it looks pretty. I'm going to be opening an Etsy shop soon so I have to get to work on some things for that.

My zucchini garden has been amazing. I am growing regular zucchini and round zucchini. They are called '8 Ball'. They are really good. So far I have frozen about a dozen quart size bags of cut up zucchini.  The tomatos are coming in too. Right now it is mostly the grape and cherry ones. I am waiting for the larger ones to start making sauce.

Well, I think that covers my summer so far. I'll let you know when I finish the socks.

Wreaths

This week I made a couple of wreaths. I still have one more to make. One is for my back porch and the other 2 are for my bedroom door and the door to my office. Both wreaths will be the same since the doors face each other.

This one is on the porch. Its just a grapevine wreath with silk flowers glued on.

The indoor ones are styrofoam wrapped in yarn with some paper flowers I got at A.C. Moore. The flowers are from the scrapbooking section.
So here is the before:

... and here is the after.
I really like how these came out. It took a long time to wrap the yarn which is why there is only one made so far.
