Belted Baby Sweater

Gauge: 4sts & 2 ½ rows per inch
Size: Newborn

Chain 36
Row 1:
dc in 4th ch from hook and next 3 chs,
3 dc in next ch,
dc in next 5 chs,
3 dc in next ch,
dc in next 10 chs,3 dc in next ch,
dc in next 5 chs,
3 dc in next ch,
dc in last 5 chs.
ch 2, turn.

rows 2-5: dc in each dc across putting 3dc in center dc of 3dc group below. Ch 2, turn.

row 6: dc across to center of first 3dc group, ch 4, skip across to next 3dc, dc in center st and each st across to center st of 3rd dc group, ch4, skip to last 3dc put dc in center of 3dc group and across to end. ch 2, turn.

Rows 7 & 8: DC in each stitch across. Ch 2, turn.

Row 9: *Skip 1 DC, DC in next stitch, DC in skipped stitch. Repeat from * across. DC in last stitch, ch 2 turn. This row will make the belt loops.

Row 10: DC in first 3 sts, increase in next st. Work 4 dcs followed by an increase across row. ch 2 turn.

Rows 11-16: DC across. Ch 1 turn.
SC across bottom of sweater, work 3 sc in corner (you will now be working up the right front side of the sweater to make the buttonholes) place 1sc in the first dc. Then work 2 sc in each dc space up front. Work a total of 18 sc’s then make first button loop by chaining 3 then sc in next st work 6 sc’s, make second button loop, sc in next 6 and make final buttonloop, sc in final 2 stitches. Make 3 sc’s in corner stitch then sc around neck to left side, work 3 sc’s in corner then sc down the left front side placing 2 scs in each dc space. When you get to end finish off.

Sleeves
Attach yarn at middle stitch underarm
row 1-10: ch 2, dc in each st around. Join.
row 11: ch 1, sc in each st around. Join, finish off.

Weave a piece of ribbon thru row 9 to make “belt”.
